The Feast of Pentecost usually focuses on the reading in Acts that talks about wind and fire. This time, however, I focused on breath - the breath of God that give new life to dry bones, the breath of Jesus that gave new life to fickel disciples, in Breath, Bridges and Blessing.

We observed the Feast of the Ascension today. Luke's story of Jesus being carried to heaven on a cloud might be seen as nonsense in a world defined by Newtonian physics, and we know heaven isn't a place you get to in a space ship. "I can worship God without going to church." I hear that a lot, either directly or from parents lamenting how their grown kids don't go to church. In one sense, it's true. In another sense, it's the recipe for spiritual famine. Jesus almost always made it clear that discipleship was a group project, saying, in essence, I'm Talking to ALL Y'all.
